Welcome! The following pages provide details on the seminars organised by the European Commission Directorate General for TRADE in cooperation with the Directorate General for Health and Consumers (DG SANCO), aimed at improving mutual understanding of Sanitary and Phytosanitary issues and relevant legislation between the EU and administrators from Asian countries.

Each seminar was held for 3 days and covered aspects of EU and Asian country SPS regimes, in order to promote a better understanding of regulation, legislation and food safety mechanisms between the trading partners.

The specific objectives of this series of seminars were:

  • To ensure that administrators involved in food controls in participating countries were properly informed on EU legislation for export to the EU of food products, and products of animal or plant origin,
  • To advise participant countries on administrative issues such as establishment/optimisation of food safety infrastructure and action plans,
Presentations were given by EU Food Safety experts, as well as representatives from the European Commission and Asian countries. The seminars took place in EC premises in Brussels, Belgium and flights and accommodation for administrators were funded by the EC and arranged by the event organiser.

Nominations of participants were made through the national government contact point in the respective countries. Once the nomination of participants was confirmed, information on travel and accommodation arrangements was then sent by the event organiser to each participant.

The seminars were organised under DG TRADE in cooperation with DG SANCO, and being implemented by Emerging Markets Group SA, DEVELOPMENT Solutions UK, and the Central Science Laboratory.
